X:ID Builder File Structure The X:ID editor allows users to create and edit their own diagnostic or identifications keys.

The key consists of the key file itself (stored in the Lucid Interchance Format, *.LIF) and zero or more optional support files. Support files can be multimedia objects such as images or video files. They can also be interface design elements and style sheets.

X:ID stores all these elements for a key in a single folder which contains subfolders for these elements. The key format file contains the same name as the folder and ends with the ".LIF" extension. This is important as it is the current means by which the player software locates and reads the key definitions.
